Vincent Van Gogh at Mudec in Milan promises to be the most popular exhibition to take place this fall in the city. The exhibition runs from the 21st of September 2023 to the 8th January 2024. The Mudec also known as the Museum of Culters in one of the most important cultural institutions of the capital of fashion. Its origin dates back to the early 90s when the Milan Municipality decided to convert the old industrial plant of Ansaldo into a hub for art in its many forms.
Vincent Van Gogh at Mudec: what’s on
The team behind the curation of the exhibtion “Vincent van Gogh: Artist and Reader” is composed by some of the most prominent connoisseurs of the artist’s life and work: the art historian Francesco Poli, writer Mariella Guzzoni who curated “Van Gogh: Living with Books” and Aurora Canepari who’s in charge of the section “Van Gogh and Japonisme”.
The exhibition includes masterpieces borrowed from the Kröller-Müller Museum in Otterlo, in the Netherlands, whose amazing collection of Van Gogh’s paintings and drawings is surpassed only by the collection of the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam.
“Approximately 40 of the works on display come from the Dutch museum, including some amazing masterpieces, such as the studies for heads and figures for The Potato Eaters, and the drawings of sowers and gleaners dating back to the Dutch period; (Moulin de la Galette, Self-Portrait, Interior of a Restaurant, Still Life with Plaster Statuette) the Paris years (1886-88) (Orchard Bordered by Cypresses, Seascape near Les Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer, The Green Vineyard, Portrait of Joseph-Michel Ginoux), and the Arles period (1888-89) (Landscape with Wheat Sheaves and Rising Moon, Wheat Stack under a Cloudy Sky, Pine Trees in the Garden of the Asylum, Olive Grove with Two Olive Pickers, Tree Trunks in the Grass, The Ravine (Les Peiroulets)), painted during the year he spent in the Saint-Rémy hospital (1889-90)”
