Sabrina Impacciatore: from Rome to the Emmys

Sabrina Impacciatore is one of the most appreciated Italian actresses who managed to smoothly transition from comedy to drama demonstrating her exceptional skills. And she also a great human being too! Read here below her story!

Sabrina Impacciatore: the beginnings

Sabrina Impacciatore was born in Rome in 1968 and started her career in the entertainment industry thanks to Gianni Boncompagni, one of the most prolific Italian television director and producer. Boncompagni wanted her to join a TV show he had created titled “Non è la RAI” where Sabrina was performing in a wide range of comic skits. This lead her to join a second show under the direction of Boncompagni titled “Macao” where she one again demonstrated her comic skill with the creation of a character named Darla.

These roles shed the light on her acting skills so much that she was casted as one of the leading characters in an Italian sitcom called “Discokkupati” (Unemployed) in 1997.

The filmography of Sabrina Impacciatore

Her debut on the silver screen dates back to 1999 when she joined the production of a movie titled “Il Compagno” based on the novel of the same name by Cesare Pavese. Year 2001 marks a turning point for Sabrina’s career as she was casted in the movie “L’ultimo Bacio” by Gabriele Muccino (the Italian director of movies like The Pursuit of Happiness, Seven Pounds and Playing for Keeps). This movie will also be have an American version by director Tony Goldwyn and starring Zach Braff, Rachel Bilson, Casey Affleck and Jacinda Barrett.

In 2004 she joined the cast of the movie “The Passion of the Christ” by Mel Gibson where she played the role of Veronica, the woman who helps the Christ during the passion and cleans his face with a linen cloth. In the same movie there is also the Italian actress Claudia Gerini (who plays Pilatus’ wife) who was also a cast member of the tv show “Non è la RAI”.

In 2010 she’s again on set with Gabriele Muccino for the sequel of the movie “L’ultimo Bacio” titled “Baciami Ancora (Kiss me again)” and in 2018 the director will want her to join the cast of another Italian success named “A casa tutti bene”

The White Lotus: Sabrina’s big break

In a recent interview appeared on comingsoon.it Sabrina has unveiled some interesting facts about the casting process for the role of Valentina in the second season of The White Lotus.

She was busy on a movie set on on the Dolomites when she got the call from her agent saying that the director Mike White was struggling to find an actress to play Valentina. She was reluctant to sent her audition tape since she was very busy, but with the help of some friends and almost two days of taping, she was finally able to send her tape to the casting director of The White Lotus. Long story short she got a call by her agent saying that she was stunning and that the production company loved her work. A few weeks later she was playing Valentina in the White Lotus with Jennifer Coolidge, Aubrey Plaza, Theo James and Michael Imperioli.

Her character became widely popular. So popular that she was later invited on Jimmy Kimmel Live! where she discussed her career and encounters with the cast of the show

The role of Valentina was also able to get to Sabrina Impacciatore an Emmy nomination in the category “Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series” A nomination which she shares with fellow Italian actress and star on The White Lotus Simona Tabasco
