Last updated on February 24, 2023

Find out why Milan makes New Yorkers feel at home during their stay in the city.

  • The Statue of Liberty
  • The 9/11 memorial
  • The US Consulate
  • The american food
  • The musicals

The Statue of Liberty

Did you know that in Milan there is an exact same copy of the Statue of Liberty? Check this link to know where it is and why Milan has its own Statue of Liberty.

The 9/11 memorial

The city of Milan has dedicated a street to the victims of the 9/11 terrorist attack. It is called “Largo Vittime dell’11 settembre” (Victims of the 11th of September square). The largo features a sculpture by artist Bernard Roig which pays tribute to all the victims of terrorism. It was officially inaugurated on the 11th of September 2012 and in that occasion the US Consul General said:

“This moving gesture by the city of Milan demonstrates that, after that tragedy, the friendship between Italy and the United States has strengthened”

The US Consulate

The US consulate of Milan is just a few steps from Piazza Stati Uniti d’ America (United States of America square). Hosted since 1985 in the Montecatini Building designed by world famous Italian architect Gio Ponti, the Consulate General of the United States has been for a long time  in the city of Milan.  A document dated 1879 states that the Consulate was located, even at that time, in via Principe Amedeo in the heart of  Milan.  The current Consulate building overlooks Piazza Stati Uniti d’America, rededicated by the municipal council in memory of the victims of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. This square also features the headquarter of Radio 105 one of the most important radio in Italy.

The American food

It might sound weird but if you are willing to enjoy some good American food while in Italy ( I know…you are in Italy for Italian food but…you never know…) there are some good restaurants in the city that offer courses that New Yorkers will enjoy.

The musicals

Milan has always been the capital of the Italian entertainment industry. While in town you can enjoy one of the performances of US musicals that have crossed the Atlantic Ocean. The Jersey boys, Wicked and many others have been applauded by the Milanese audience.

The last thing you need to do is to book your flight to Milan. Check this link to find out which airlines offer direct flights from New York to Milan. We know it is kind of a long flight but with these suggestions you will enjoy every single minute of it!
