Barack Obama in Milan

Barack Obama, the former president of the United States will be visiting Milan on the 9th of May 2017 when he will be the keynote speaker of the Global Food Innovation Summit.

The event will take place in the Fiera Milano facilities from the 8th to the 11th of May and deals with food topics: from nutrition to new technologies, from climate changes to food security.

The visit of Barack Obama will also be the opportunity for the former White House’s tenant to officially receive the keys to the city by the mayor of Milan Mr. Giuseppe Sala.

The mayor had the chance to meet Ms Michelle Obama back in 2015 when he was the CEO of EXPO 2015, the six months event that took place in Milan and that had as main theme “Feeding the planet, energy for life”.

During here visit the wife of Barack Obama and former First Lady of the United States spoke about the importance of eating as a family and also showed students from the American School of Milan how to cook, as part of her “Let’s Move” initiative aimed at boosting nutrition and combating obesity among children.

Now it is up to Mr Barack Obama to pursue the global awarness of healthy food and good habits when at the kitchen table.

During his trip to Italy Barack Obama will be escorted by Sam Kass who was the executive chef at the White House during the 8 years of the presidency and who was responsible of the healthy revolution that took place at 1600 Pensylvania Avenue.

The visit to Milan is part of a much wider agenda that will see the former president touring Europe: on the 24th of May he will meet Angela Merkel in Berlin and on the 26th of the same month Barack Obama will be visiting Scotland.
